Physician - Scientist - Author - Illustrator
Paula Heister is originally from Germany, but has lived in the UK for many years.
She is a doctor and scientist. When she realised that half her lab-books were full of drawings and stories, she decided she ought to do something about it. She enrolled on the MA in Children's Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art (Anglia Ruskin University), and has been happily hopping between art and science ever since.
She loves printmaking and creating textures using everyday objects, stencils, and paper stamps. Her favourite thing is to tell stories with a strong sense of place. Story ideas often seem to walk into her head when she least expects it, and then bounce around her brain until she has time to develop them on the page...
She also loves science, and when she isn't writing and illustrating, she teaches medicine at Downing College, Cambridge.
She completed her academic training at the University of Oxford, LMU/TU Munich, and Imperial College London.
